Request:

1. For 1 Apr 2024 to 31 March 2025, please could you provide a breakdown of the number of crime outcomes for your police force split by whether the suspect was an adult, child (under 18), or unknown. Please use the outcome groups from the Home Office police outcomes statistics.

Response:

I can confirm that Dyfed-Powys Police does hold the information requested, as outlined below.

Please note the data in the table below includes the volume of offences finalised between 1st Apr 2024 to 31st March 2025, rather than those reported in the time frame.

Caveat – There were 4 police outcomes that do not fit in with the categories provided but volumes can be seen below for applicant to categorise as see fits.

The list below details what Police Recorded Outcomes have been used for each requested category.

• Out-of-court (formal) - i.e. cautions and penalty notices for disorder (2: Youth caution, 2: Youth conditional caution, 2A: Alternate offence youth caution, 3: Adult caution, 3: Adult conditional caution, 3A: Alternate offence adult caution, 3A: Alternate offence adult conditional caution)
• Out-of-court (informal) - i.e. community resolutions (7: Cannabis warning, 8: Community resolution, 8: Youth restorative disposal)
• Diversionary, educational or intervention activity, resulting from the crime report, has been undertaken and it is not in the public interest to take any further action (22: Diversionary, educational or intervention activity, has been undertaken and there is no public interest to continue)
• Charged/Summonsed (1: Charged, 1: Summonsed/postal requisition, 1A: Alternate offence charged, 1A: Alternate offence summonsed/postal requisition)
• Evidential difficulties (suspect identified; victim supports action) (15: Police - named suspect, victim supports but evidential difficulties, 15: CPS - named suspect, victim supports but evidential difficulties)
• Evidential difficulties (victim does not support action) (16: Victim declines/withdraws support - named suspect identified)
• Prosecution prevented or not in the public interest (9: CPS - prosecution not in public interest, 17: Suspect identified but prosecution time limit expired, 12: Named suspect identified but is dead or too ill (physical or mental health) to prosecute)
• Further investigation to support formal action not in the public interest – police decision (10: Police - formal action not in public interest, 21: Police - named suspect, investigation not in the public interest)
• Responsibility for further investigation transferred to another body (20: Other body/agency has investigation primacy)
• Taken into consideration (4: TIC (taken into consideration)
• Investigation complete – no suspect identified (18: Investigation complete no suspect identified)
• Not yet assigned an outcome (N/A as applicant previously clarified they want offences by outcome date rather than reported date).
• Unable to be categorised (11: Named suspect below age of criminal responsibility, 13: Named suspect but victim/key witness deceased or too ill, 14: Victim declines/unable to support action to identify offender, 5: Offender has died)

It should be noted that as a result of the systems adopted by Dyfed-Powys Police in relation to the recording of such information that the information released may or may not be accurate.

Furthermore, it should also be noted that Police forces in the United Kingdom are routinely required to provide crime statistics to government bodies and the recording criteria is set nationally. However, the systems used for recording these figures are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the crime data. It should be noted that for these reasons this force's response to your questions should not be used for comparison purposes with any other response you may receive.
