Request:

We are seeking further statistical information on 'crime hot spots' in relation to car theft and key-less entry/key cloning incidents. This data is crucial for both staff vehicles and the people we support who have Motability vehicles using this technology.

We hope to share this information within our organisation- Specifically, we need data for the areas of Brecon & Llanelli- Carmarthenshire.

Could you please provide statistical information for the past 12 months, (April 2024-May 2025) we would appreciate this information in a spreadsheet or graph format where possible.

Clarification:

1. The term "Crime" in relation to car theft via keyless entry.
2. The request covers all cars and vehicles in the identified areas, as we aim to provide robust information to both staff and the individuals we support.
3. The information pertains specifically to Llanelli (Carmarthenshire) and Brecon areas.

Response:

I can confirm that Dyfed-Powys Police does hold the information requested, the details of which are as follows:

• For the period of April 2024 - May 2025 there were a total of 3 car theft crimes via keyless entry / key cloning cases recorded, one (1) in the Llanelli area and two (2) in the Brecknockshire area.                                   

It should be noted that owing to the systems adopted by Dyfed-Powys Police in relation to the recording of such matters the information provided may or may not be accurate. Police Forces in the United Kingdom are routinely required to provide crime statistics to government bodies and the recoding criteria is set nationally.  However, the systems used for recording these figures are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the data.  It should be noted that for these reasons this Force’s response to your questions should not be used for comparison purposes with any other response you may receive.
