1. Does your force currently use Virtual Reality (VR) or Mixed Reality (MR) technologies?

• If yes, please provide a brief description of how they are being used (e.g. training, assessment, guidance, public engagement, etc.).

2. Please specify:

• The project name or topic area where VR/MR is being used.
• The intended outcomes of using VR/MR (e.g. competency testing, assessment, certification, skills training, or awareness exercises).
• The hardware being used (e.g. Pico, Oculus Quest 2, HTC Vive, etc.).
• The software or platform being used (if known).
• Whether the force is using Mixed Reality (e.g. VR integrated with presentations, 360deg imagery, or other media).
• How long the force has been using this technology.
• Any measured or observed outcomes or feedback regarding its effectiveness.

3. If your force is not currently using VR or MR, is there any plan, pilot, or project under development to explore these technologies in the future?

Response 1:

I can confirm that Dyfed-Powys Police does hold the information requested, as outlined below.

We are currently utilising VR technologies and 360 video to support initial training through provision of realistic, scalable scenarios.

I can confirm that Dyfed-Powys Police does hold the information requested, as outlined below.

VR is being used as part of statement training, assault lessons and domestic abuse training. Most recent development was development of an interactive 360 project on initial response of domestic abuse.

We are currently looking at the use of VR as part of skills training, awareness and building resilience. We are looking at how this could be utilised for assessment and competency in the future.

We are currently using the Pico G3 HMDs as part of a RiVR package. We have 20 HMDs. We are using Insta360 X5 and Insta360 Pro 2 camera equipment for capture.

Dyfed-Powys Police has been experimenting with VR for approximately 18 months but has only started to integrate this into training in the last 9 months.

Feedback from students has been hugely positive and they can see the benefits of introducing VR as a way of introducing scenarios that are hard to recreate in a classroom.

We are continuously exploring the use of VR in L&D and are currently developing further immersive learning packages. In particular simulated environments and AI. 

It should be noted that as a result of the systems adopted by Dyfed-Powys Police in relation to the recording of such information that the information released may or may not be accurate.
