Request:

I am writing to make a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. Please provide the following information for each of the last five full calendar years, that is 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025.

1. The total number of recorded domestic abuse related crimes for your force area, for each year.
2. Of those domestic abuse related crimes, the number that were closed under outcome code 16, being cases where a suspect was identified but no further action was taken because the victim did not support police action, for each year.
3. A breakdown of the number of domestic abuse related crimes closed under each other outcome code used, for each year, so that the proportion closed under outcome 16 can be compared against other outcomes.
4. Of the domestic abuse related crimes closed under outcome code 16 in each year, the number of those cases in which a domestic violence protection notice or a domestic violence protection order had been issued in relation to that case and confirmation of whether such cases are recorded under the same outcome code 16 as cases closed solely because the victim did not support further police action, or whether these are distinguished in any way on your systems.

Please note:

Data only available from the 1st June 2023 as we migrated to a new system. Within the new system DA crimes where a DVPO/DVPN are issued are identifiable by a flag, this couldn’t be done in the old system.

Outcome 16s with a DVPO/N and Outcome 16s without are outcomed in the exact same way. A DVPO/N is identifiable by a flag on the system to alert us that one has been issued against the named suspect in the investigation.
