Clarification: Any victim of RTCs, not just fatal.

Response 1:

I can confirm that Dyfed-Powys Police does hold the information requested, as outlined below.

The next of kin or immediate family members of people killed in RTCs are offered the support of a Family Liaison Officer (FLO). The FLO will also supply support packs that include information from the road safety charity ‘BRAKE’ who can offer further services.

Our FLOs are all serving officers who volunteer to conduct the role in addition to their normal policing duties. We work with ‘BRAKE’ to provide further support if required.

All next of kin or immediate family members of someone killed in an RTC are offered FLO support. In certain circumstances we may consider deploying an FLO to the family of a seriously injured person if there is likely to be a prosecution against the other party involved. Each case is taken on an individual basis.

Responses 4 & 5:

I can confirm that there is no information held by Dyfed-Powys Police due to the fact that the number/percentage requested is not specifically recorded as the uptake of FLO support is voluntary. However we can advise that the initial offer of FLO support is accepted in the vast majority of cases. A small number of people do decline support for various reasons.

It should be noted that as a result of the systems adopted by Dyfed-Powys Police in relation to the recording of such information that the information released may or may not be accurate.
