Ethnicity of persons stopped 925/2022

Request 1 - 4:

I am a Criminology and Statistics student, who is currently exploring and researching the Section 163 Act. It would be of great benefit if you could please answer the following questions below to support my research.

1. Since 2017, have you collected any data on the number of people stopped*, by ethnicity, in vehicle only searches?
2. Please provide the number of people stopped*, by ethnicity, in vehicle only searches, each year since 2017.
3. If this is not available, please provide total counts of people stopped*, by ethnicity, in vehicle only searches, for the entire period or any portion of this period for which data exist.
4. Did or do these data form part of any pilot scheme? If so, please provide any concluding or interim reports published alongside the data.

Response 1 – 4:

I can confirm that there is no information held by Dyfed-Powys Police due to the fact that vehicle only searches does not record the ethnicity of the person.

Please note: Data on the number of vehicles stopped via “vehicle only searches” is only available from 2018, and the ethnicity of the person stopped is not recorded.

It should be noted that as a result of the systems adopted by Dyfed-Powys Police in relation to the recording of such information that the information released may or may not be accurate.
